Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how CasinoVerdict (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles personal data when you use casinoverdict.co.uk (the “site”). CasinoVerdict is an independent information, review and comparison service covering online casinos and betting brands for a UK audience. We are not a gambling operator: we do not run games, accept bets or hold player funds, so we do not process the identity, payment or betting data that a licensed operator would.
Scope of this policy
This policy covers the site, any newsletters or emails we send, and interactive features such as contact forms, comments or saved lists. It does not cover the third-party operators, review subjects or advertisers we link to; each of those has its own privacy policy, which you should read before using their services.
Personal data we collect
We collect only what we need to run an information site. Depending on how you use it, this may include:
- Contact data — your name and email address when you use a contact form or subscribe to our newsletter
- Account data — if we offer accounts, a username, email and password (stored in hashed form) and any preferences you save
- User content — comments, ratings or feedback you choose to submit
- Technical and device data — IP address, browser type, device, operating system and referring pages, collected automatically
- Usage data — the pages you view, links you click and time on site, gathered through analytics
- Cookie data — identifiers set by cookies and similar technologies
- Marketing preferences — your consent choices for emails and cookies
We do not knowingly collect special-category data, and we never ask for identity documents, source-of-funds evidence, financial account details or gambling-transaction history, because we are not an operator.
How we collect your data
We collect personal data directly from you when you contact us, subscribe or comment; automatically through cookies, server logs and analytics as you browse; and occasionally from third parties such as analytics or advertising partners who provide aggregated statistics, and the email-delivery provider we use to send newsletters.
Legal bases for processing
Under the UK GDPR we rely on the following legal bases, matched to each purpose:
- Consent — for optional analytics cookies, advertising cookies and marketing emails; you can withdraw it at any time
- Legitimate interests — for keeping the site secure, preventing abuse and fraud, understanding how the site is used and improving our content, balanced against your rights
- Performance of a contract — where you create an account or subscribe, in order to provide that service
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose data to comply with the law
How we use your data
We use personal data to respond to your enquiries and provide support; to send newsletters and updates you have opted into; to operate, secure and troubleshoot the site; to measure and improve our content and performance; to display and, with your consent, personalise advertising; and to comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:
- service providers who host the site, deliver our emails and provide analytics or security tools, under contract and only as needed
- advertising and affiliate partners, where you have consented to advertising cookies, generally in aggregated or pseudonymised form
- professional advisers such as lawyers or auditors, where necessary
- authorities, regulators or courts where we are legally required to disclose, or to protect our rights, our users or the public
Because we are not a gambling operator, we do not share your data with payment processors, KYC/identity providers or any gambling regulator.
International data transfers
Some of our providers — for example analytics or email tools — may process data outside the UK or EEA. Where that happens, we rely on an adequacy decision, or on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, then delete or anonymise it. As a guide: newsletter data until you unsubscribe; contact-form messages for up to 24 months; analytics data for up to 26 months; and server logs for a short period for security. Where the law requires a longer period, we keep it for that period.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to access your data; to have it corrected or erased; to restrict or object to processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any right, email [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, although we would welcome the chance to resolve your concern first.
If you are a California resident, you also have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion or correction, to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information as that term is commonly understood.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for essential site functions, for analytics and, with your consent, for advertising. You can manage your choices through our cookie banner or your browser settings. Our Cookies Policy explains this in more detail.
Links to other websites
The site contains links to operators, review subjects and other third-party websites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, and this policy does not apply to them. When you follow a link, we encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit before sharing personal data with it.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit, access controls and regular review — to protect personal data. No online service can be guaranteed completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond promptly to any incident. Where a breach is likely to affect your rights, we will notify you and the ICO as the law requires.
Children and age restriction
Our content concerns gambling and is intended only for adults aged 18 or over. The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we hold a minor’s data we will delete it. If you believe a minor has provided us with data, please contact [email protected].
Responsible gambling
Because we write about gambling, we take player protection seriously. If gambling is causing you harm, please see our Responsible Gaming page and the support organisations listed there, including GAMSTOP and the National Gambling Helpline.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows the current version, and we will highlight significant changes on the site.
